Make informed class choices your
first semester
of high school.
The first semester can impact whether some future classes you want will be available to you.
It’s normal to be confused about what classes to take,what your major should be, what careers you might enjoy, and how to get started on the right path.
Here are a few ways to make it easier:
- Mentally jump to graduation. Think about the highest level of each subject you hope to have taken. Work backwards to see if those classes require you to take other classes first. If so, make those classes a priority to take as soon as possible.
- Write a “mini” advertisement of yourself. “Sell” your special talents and interests, and goals. What are they? Take this ad to your counselor and discuss how to design a plan that fits you.
- Make an appointment to have a comprehensive assessment at Personality Science. The results will discuss your unique profile, and offer “good fit” career options for you to consider.
Make career decisions after understanding who you truly are.
Your counselor can be a great asset if you can tell him or her more about yourself. If you have some strong academic or career goals, or have taken an educational or career assessment, share this information with your counselor to plan your course of action. ear.

This may be the first time that they’ve had a choice about which classes to take. These classes establish what future classes may be taken. Plus, the grades in high school become part of their permanent record.
It is not at all unusual for students to question their direction right in the middle of the program. Many feel they should be doing something else, but believe there is too much invested (time and money) to change direction.
Going back to school often means making sacrifices, and changing careers can mean taking risks. Adults know they need to to commit to new educational & career goals, and want the confidence an objective assessment brings.
